This is a project I worked on last week, now installed in our kitchen. There is a magnet in the back of it which catches the beer cap when you open the beer. Not my idea but perfect for a CNC. Follow the link below to read the article, download the files (for VCarve 8.5 or Aspire 8.5) and also see a slow-motion video of it in action.

Beer Cap Catcher
Re: Beer Cap Catcher
Great looking piece. Thank you for the share, I've got a half dozen of those openers that needed a project to go with for gifts.

Re: Beer Cap Catcher
Thanks for the kind words, over the weekend I tested (with some friends) the capacity, with two of the magnets in the back it will hold 15 beer caps before it starts to drop them as the photo shows...
Cheers,
James

Re: Beer Cap Catcher
James, you are using the wrong strength magnets!
You need magnets that will hold the cap before it is removed from the bottle!
Seriously though, use two magnets with appropriate spacing and make sure the magnetic poles are opposite to each other. Your caps will stack up between them and each cap will become part of the magnetic path.
You could at least double the number of caps stored there before you have to go back to the "warehouse" for more!

That's some true drunk engineering right there, kudos for the ingenuity.Tex_Lawrence wrote:James, you are using the wrong strength magnets!

Re: Beer Cap Catcher
Great
Now I have to take mine off of the post I mounted it to that supports the fence surrounding our hot tub and make a base for it so I can put magnets on it.
I may need one for the kitchen, the man room and............
Ingenious!
