Well, well ... I like this. It puts a little fire in the brain on Monday morning as I walk to the shop.

I have an idea running around in my head. How to make it a perpetual calendar . Each year be able to change the number for the anniversary. 1,2,3,4 so on.

"Project Toolpath Onto 3D Model"

Would make a huge difference. The book pages are curved but the text is perfectly flat.
Something to think about...

I did have it set to project on 3D model. I kept thinking that it did not look right but figured it was me. It is 14 MB zipped or I would post the file. Someone may see what I did wrong

You need to draw a line that looks like the bottom of the page then move it up to where the text is and set the text above the curve.

You can use the Distort Object function and the Bounding Box selection to allow the text to follow the curvature of the page.

Great project and it came out nice. If you make something similar later, then the suggestion about distorting the text to flow with the page curves is something you might want to try.

I used that technique for the text on "The Reader Magazine Rack" project. You can download the project and take a peek at the files to see how it's laid out.

Here is the link:

I will definitely look into using that warp item.

Anyone know which Tutes deal with Distort and Project on to 3D surface. I have been looking at the help manual and the videos. Just so many hours of videos. I wish there was a quick link to video using key words.

These two tutorials show one way to distort text and project it onto the model:

http://support.vectric.com/tutorials/V8 ... _3DAS.html
http://support.vectric.com/tutorials/V8 ... _3DTP.html

We're actually looking at better ways to organize the tutorials and ideally make them searchable. We're also going to start doing short tips and tricks videos so perhaps we'll do one on distorting text.

Thanks,
James

I'm sorry, Don. I forgot that was an Aspire-only project. The links James provided will teach you the technique.

There is a Tutorial on exactly this “Book” and how to use the Distort Text Function.

It was included in the Aspire 4 Tutorial Files.

It was Tutorial F09 – Project 2D Toolpath onto clipart model
It stated “This video shows how to take a set of text and use the distortion tools to match the curve of pages in a 3D clipart model of a book. VCarve and Profile toolpaths are then calculated and projected onto the surface of the Component.”

Not sure if this video is still available

Jozua, that tutorial is not one of the tutorials on the support website it is as you say on a disk that comes with Aspire. Don doesn't have Aspire he uses Vcarve.
