Beer and Memories

Beer and Memories!
My buddy had a tree in his front yard that was lifting his driveway so it had to go. But he wanted to do something cool with it. Had the tree guy save him a 4" thick slab. Asked me how long it had to season and I said "1 year per inch". So here we are 4 years later and he comes up with this idea to embed coasters from his favorite brew houses. Sure, I can do that. The round split along the crack which worked out because now the halves fit in my Axiom Pro V5 (2x4).

Laid out the coasters where I wanted them to go, took a photo, imported into Aspire (but only need Vcarve or Cut 2D for this), made the vector layout and cut tryouts 1/8" deep. Cut into the round and it worked a treat - nice an level like they grew there. I leveled it, built tenons, cut a 3/4" wide and deep track to put them in and flattened the halves before rejoining.

Epoxy the major crack, build a table to support it, inlay the coasters and cover the top with a UV epoxy so it can weather outdoors. Voila!

NIce... I have a small box of coasters I've collected over the years.... I wonder if my wife would let me make one of those... and have it in the house... Hummmmm

Thanks for sharing.... and getting me in trouble... ;)

Well, yeah, what else would you use to level the table but a stack of coasters! How appropriate!

Looks perfect. +1

Hey! In the last picture some "jerk" forgot to use a coaster for his beer. There were plenty of coasters available on the table :D

I hope your friend didn't wait 4 years for a beer. That would be sad... Nice job!
