First carve...

Post by UtahJock »

The ram head is a purchased STL ring for 3D printing. I added a few other toolpaths to get this. I can't believe how easy it was to do this with Vcarve.

Very nicely done. I'd like information on its size and bits that you used so that I can learn from your experience,, please.

Thank you for the comments.

Regarding bits and toolpaths, there were several of them:
3D roughing 0.5'' core box
3D finish, and (2) swept profiles 0.0625'' taper ball,
and (2) pockets with a 0.125'' down-cut

As I mentioned, the actual ram was purchased on CGTrader and is an STL file for 3D printing. I have it placed so it's both relief and anti-relief. The carving is nearly two inches thick. Overall size is about 8.5'' x 9'' x 2.5''.

I hadn't considered the extra parts to be a display stand or frame, but they work that way. The whole is single piece, glued together.

I made nine of these as gifts for my dad's survivors after he passed away last year. His initials are RAM.

I have more of my woodworking from the past at www.manfulldesign.com. Not carving, as this is my first.
