Easy Box Maker 3.3 Problem

Post by qrupc02 »

Nothing fancy. I haven't used gadget before. I am running VCarve 12.010. Output is to many toolpath files. I tried a few and all run the same. Router moves from 0,0 to start position for cut and lowers close to surface and then just stops. Router continues to run No error is indicated.

Thanks for any help...

GCODE file starts with:

This line:

Code: Select all

S0M3
M3 turns the spindle on spinning clockwise. S0 sets the rpm to spin at to 0. Edit the toolpath use to generate that g-code. Edit the tool settings and see what the rpm is set there.

Most of the Gadgets are made for the User to Go Over and Verify all the Toolpath Settings before committing to the CNC Machine. The gadget is also comprised of all the Toolpaths necessary for each of the parts it creates. If the User is not going to use all the Toolpaths then they have the Option to Use or Delete any Toolpath not needed.

File Loads normally.
Displays properly.
Outlines properly.
Verifys with no errors.

When run the router goes to 0,0, then goes to job start and router is lowered close to surface and then just sits there. No error, it just sits there running.

Again I will say that it is up to the User of the Gadget to Set the Toolpaths to their Equipment --- CNC Machine, Long Mill Etc... The Spindle Speed is intentionally left at zero for that reason and more. You the user only know your machine and what it can handle so that is another reason for the User of the Gadget to Check and Verify all Settings before committing. Would you like and or prefer a message at the end of the run process that says --- Please Check and Verify all Settings before committing to your CNC Machine??? That can be accomplished if that is what you require or need.

Oh and by the way the router without any RPMS stopping instead of continuing on is a good thing, Don't You Think!?

The Gadget is Complete upon the creation of the Drawings (vectors) and the Toolpaths after that it is ALL up to what the operator/user decides from that point to do.

Obviously my tone isn’t coming across. I apologize for apparently suggesting that “Easy Box Creator” is the problem. I am not trying to blame anyone here. The gadget appears to have created everything I need. All the toolpaths seem correct, but I can’t get it to cut…

I have inquired with the Longmill people as well.

I just hoped someone would recognize my problem and post “that happed to me and all you have to do is adjust the graphicomp”.

I’ll keep looking…

You need to set the spindle rpm by using the Edit... button in the toolpaths in the Tool section or reselecting the tool,

The gadget doesn't carry over the rpm from the tool definition to force people to look at the tool settings to make sure they are appropriate for their machine from what Sharkcutup is saying.

Intentionally setting the speed to zero seems thoroughly ridiculous. Why not also set the FeedRate and StepDown to zero? You can't verify that those make any more sense than the rpm set in the tool database.

The original poster should consider themselves lucky that the machine refused to run. My machine would have happily plunged into the material and at a minimum broken a bit.

From the comments in the code:
version 2.0: January 19, 2023: Toolpath Spindle Speed added into Toolpaths
It seems that at some point in development it was acknowledged the set to 0 was a bad idea.

Select a Tooplath you wish to edit a Spindle Speed on.
AA.png
Now Select a Tool (Router Bit) from the list then select Edit to edit the paramters on that tool selected.
Screenshot 1.png
Now select the Spindle RPMs and change from Zero to whatever your machine could possibly handle.
Screenshot 2.png
Maybe we should add some sort of RPMS I will check with the Author of the Gadget to get his opinion on the matter.

I have also just done a review of the gadget and it seems that the OP may never took the time to add his own tools (Router Bits) into the input areas for if he had whatever was in his tool database for RPMS would have had the Spindle Speed RPMs assigned to his tool. But now if he saved the toolpaths as is which was created from the gadget it would not have a spindle speed and some of the other data may have been at a bare minimum. That is why it is imperative and important to go over all of the settings before committing to the CNC machine. The gadget has no way of knowing what type of Machine and how rigid that machine may be for the stresses applied if settings were initially provided.

And Yes Stephen I do see in the code where the notation has been made. Like I said in an earlier post I will get with the Author on that, Thank You!

Pictures... I like pictures....

I added a spindle speed to each bit selection... (I don't normally worry about spindle speed as I am using a Makita router). I was sure this would work, but it didn't make any difference.

I am going to go over my bit select with a fine tooth comb. I'm hoping we're on to something.

BTW The beginning of the GCode files now looks like this:

No luck.

Updated the bits used with valid parameters. Increased spindle speed to 12000 for both bits. Entered the correct number of flutes.

Results are the same.

Either it is a Post Processor Issue or a Longmilll Control Issue.

Turns out a plunge rate of 15 is ridiculous. Ended up changing the bit parameters to 12000 speed and a plunge rate of 700 and everything seems to be working.

Thanks for the help...

Yup, I will repeat ---- That is why it is imperative and important to go over all of the settings before committing to the CNC machine. The gadget has no way of knowing what type of Machine and how rigid that machine may be for the stresses applied if settings were initially provided.
