Re: Box creator LUA error (with screenshot)
No need to get frustrated!
The Error Messages are there for a reason. Most of the time it is the Op not understanding the functionality of the gadget. The one that really puzzles me is the first one -- "couldn't arrange quick enough" I guess I will go into the gadget lua and investigate this error message a bit further.
There is also another Box Gadget (as I have previously mentioned) called Easy Box Maker by jimandi gadgets (jimandi.com) that may be of use to the Op. It has more features within it.

Generally that error comes up if the material isn't big enough to hold the biggest part that the gadget is trying to create. It's got a set number of iterations it goes through trying to "nest" then gives up.sharkcutup wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 2:30 pm

Yeah, I went over the lua code and saw that.
Thank you, Adrian!

I appreciate your feedback. No doubt I will end up using some of the “Easy” gadgets. I am, however, going to hold Vectric accountable. I have run this gadget 30 to 40 times. The error messages are totally incoherent. At no point are you told “This is the problem…. and this is how to fix it”. I think I got usable output 2 or 3 times.
As a former software developer I didn’t want support calls. Any time my systems encountered an error condition the error was logged and it was resolved. Error messages always told the user what they were doing wrong. I was way too busy to be dealing with phones calls.
I keep all y’all posted.

See the quoted reply from Vectric in this post about the Box Creator - viewtopic.php?p=297057#p297057qrupc02 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 9:34 pmI appreciate your feedback. The gadgets aren't necessarily anything to do with Vectric other than the hosting. Some of mine are on the Gadgets website as well.

Re: Box creator LUA error (with screenshot)
I have had some success...
Vectric support had me document some failures. My biggest issue is that my allowance number was too large. They acknowledged that the error messages were not helpful.
From their response:
I'll climb back under my rock now.
Thanks again for the suggestions. I WILL be looking at the "Easy" options.

From their response:
- We are aware that the error messages shown in the box gadget are generic in nature and do not point the
user to the cause of the failed operation. We appreciate this feedback and have passed this along to be
considered for improvement in future versions of the software, though I could not say at the moment if
or when this would be possible
I'll climb back under my rock now.

Take careful notes and capture screen shots <Windows-Shift-S> so you have a record of what works, and what doesn't.Thanks again for the suggestions. I WILL be looking at the "Easy" options.

If and when using the "Easy" Gadgets be sure to
Pass Along the WHAT DOESN'T to the jimandi gadgets Team.

Re: Box creator LUA error (with screenshot)
I have used the box gadget many times and I love it.
I did have the same issue as you show on page 1
The members on here helped me.
I find that it can "time out" as Adrian said.
Run the gadget but only select a couple of sides.
(Or 1 side and a back or front)
Then re run the gadget and select any other parts ( but don't change any settings)
You can re position these on the sheet yourself. ( make sure everything is visible and select everything to do with the part to be moved)
This may be a bit of a faff but you get great boxes.
