Box Creator Ajustments

Post by jax_ash »

i am using Box Creator v1.4 with VCarve Pro 11.506
i created a box then moved the pieces around to fit better on my work piece but i forgot to add an allowance to give me room for fitting. is there a way to adjust the cut profile so i get some clearance without re creating the Box?

Perhaps I'm missing something. If you created the box then moved the pieces but misjudged some spacing can you not just move the pieces again without recreating the box?

He wants to change the toolpath to make the joints tighter or looser I think.
I'm confident that you can't because you're machining ON the vector.
I'm just trying to visualise what would happen if you offset your vector in or out????????
Worth a try I suppose before you delete it all and start again.

Just tried offsetting.
You lose the corner undercuts. :(

thanks @jimcad I tried the offset tool as well, i was hoping that the box interface was like some of the other features but it's just designed to create the vectors then be done. Maybe a future consideration as a software upgrade. it would be nice to be able to click on the geometry and hove the software recognise how it was built and bring up an interface so you can change the offset of even the box size.

Any ways i just cut the boxes size for size then used a corner sander to take a bit off and fit the boxes manually. a little more work but i was able to get a nice tight fit.

Thanks for you feedback.

Have you considered trying the Nesting Tool/Feature to increase the clearance distance between parts?

Select/Highlight Everything in Drawing Area.
Select the Nesting Tool/Feature
Input the amount of Clearance(C)
Click Preview then if all is Satisfactory
Click Ok
Then you must re-calculate toolpaths by Layer Association --
Double Click on toolpath
Go to and select Selector at bottom of toolpath window
Select Closed Vectors
Select Toolpath Name
Select -- Associate to toolpath
Select Close
Select Calculate in Toolpath window

Now you should have plenty of Clearance and Toolpath has been re-calculated.

The only other way is if you know anything about LUA coding is to find the spacing code and change it.

The box creator gadget does some odd things when using the finger/square joint option that catches people out a lot.

It creates two sets of vectors but only one is actually used for the toolpath but it includes "tails" to make the fillets in the corners. That makes it pretty hard to adjust the vectors manually. Better to just start again IMO.

Yeah, but if I have read and assumed correctly the OP was looking to increase the cutting distance between the parts. So redoing gadget to recreate box parts doesn't help.

I read it the same way as Jim in that the OP wanted to change the joint gaps which seems to be backed up by him saying that he sanded them in the end.

Well now the Op has the solutions for both issues!

Just read it again and still agree with Adrian.
Not a major job to re do it and then move them again.
I use the box creator quite a bit and I think it's great.
I have a 6090 machine and need 2 sheets for my current project. 3 x sheet 1 and 1 x sheet 3 gives me 3 boxes.
I'm just making some cupboards with sliding perspex doors for my new shelves in my workshop.
They're based on holding 16 plastic curry trays to hold: Tool bits, screws for holding down etc. etc. etc.
I'm hoping the sliding doors will keep the dust out. :)
