Trim Objects Outside Boundary
I like this command, both for inside and outside boundary clearing. It's a jewel, except for one thing. It's S L O W
I mean, really slow. Clearly, the complexity of the graphic is key, but there doesn't seem to be an inflection point where simple ends and complexity starts. In other words, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. By "doesn't," I mean that a "Clear Outside Boundary" command can take 30 minutes to complete. The system doesn't crash, but it may as well since Vcarve can't be used for a good long while.
Is there a problem with the algorithm? I've been waiting on the command to complete as I write this message. It was at 50% when I started, and it's at 75% now. That's too slow.

Re: Trim Objects Outside Boundary
Here's where an image or sample file would help muchly.
This is a 48x36 inch file of some coral (in orange). I tried trimming to the reasonably complex black shape (both inside and outside) and things were pretty much instantaneous no matter where I placed the shape.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question but I didn't know that V-Carve had that function. I think it is supposed to be for Aspire only.

My presumption was that the question was about the tool outlined in red:

The vector features are identical between the VCarve products and Aspire

Well then I did misunderstand. I thought he was trying to trim a component. He did mention "graphic" though.mtylerfl wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 7:23 pmHi Steve,SteveNelson46 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 7:03 pmMaybe I'm misunderstanding the question but I didn't know that V-Carve had that function. Hi Steve,
I might not understand what the OP (Fred) is attempting to do either. This is posted in the Gadgets section…so it’s not clear exactly what “trim tool” is being used.
Help us out, Fred. Post your file and/or a couple screenshots. Let us know what tool you’re using. Normally, trimming is pretty much instantaneous as mentioned previously.

Re: Trim Objects Outside Boundary
Ahhh. Fully missed that this is the Gadget section. I wonder then if this could be referring to Paul Rowntree's "Cookie Cutter"?

Re: Trim Objects Outside Boundary
The treesoft cookie Cutter I think is from round about 2014 or 2015, it's not a Vectric gadget & I don't think it was ever on the Vectric gadget page. Think Paul Rowntree use to have them on his own website but I could be wrong about that it was quite a while ago

Re: Trim Objects Outside Boundary
These sorts of threads are so frustrating. The OP comes in, drops a bomb and never comes back so we're all left scratching our heads as to what the issue really was and if it was ever resolved by the replies.
