Box Gadget What I learned from it.

Post by Mark Jones »

I have enjoyed using the Vcarve Pro and the Box Creator Gadget. This video shows what I learned from it this past week. Some of these tips may benefit you and if you have a tip that will help me please say so. After cutting up three sheets of 1/4" 4x8 plywood I learned a few things from it. Using the Tile Toolpath to handle the output of the gadget is key to making boxes that fit every time.

That works with out a cable hanging out there. Just as long as it is not stressing out the shark port it will be great.

I made one of the Vectric 3d hearts tonight. Went back and forth between the shop and the computer via usb several times. They had the milling bit times WAY slow so after a couple of scratching my head wondering I pushed stop and went back in and edited all the tool paths. I am really enjoying this software.

On any file that was created by someone else you MUST always verify that all the settings are suitable for your machine, tools and material. The Vectric files all come up with a warning saying just that when you load them. The default speeds are very slow in case people don't heed those messages and potentially ruin an expensive piece of material or damage their machines at worst.

I agree. It's good to error on the slow side for sure. After editing the tooling paths it took about 45 minutes to carve. The Vectric mahogany heart box came out great. Wife's Birthday is in 2 days. She will enjoy this with some money inside. Going to burn in a laser text engrave on it as well.

You all at Vectric are doing a great job with this software. I enjoy using it and it makes sense.

This is the first carve on a double sided 3d project and the first time I used the ball nose bit. It did a nice job. You guys and gals make this look easy! Thanks!

I put in a .01 instead of a .006 allowance in the box joint gadget when working with quarter inch plywood making box joints. It made the box snap together very easily didn't even need clamping but i of course did. Thought I would share this as my .006 was still too tight when assembling them.

I have been out today making customized stuff all morning. I love this software. It make it fun. Made some bandsaw throat places in about 2 minutes out of plexiglass. Vcarve makes it so easy!

Thanks!

I love the creative ways that people come up with to make things easier. It only took me 5 days to watch the video... LOL I really need to slow down but I don't see that happening any time soon except when I have my shoulder surgery on January 5th then I will be forced to slow down
