Box creator slots larger than tabs

Post by Jaydub »

I am running vcarve prop 12 box gadget maker 1.4 using a shapeoko pro and carbide motion to run the gcode. In vcarve pro everything looks good. I set no allowance for the tabs and did sq tabs. Run it three times to try and find the error no luck. The slots come out .44 inches wide and the tabs are .33 inches wide. I cannot find the problem, help, and thanks.

Can you post the CRV file? That will eliminate a lot of guessing.

To upload a file/photo:
  • Click on the Upload attachment button below the message area
  • Click on Choose File and select your file
  • Finally, click on Add the file to upload it to the forum
If the file is too large to upload here you can use a file sharing site such as drive.google.com, onedrive.com, or dropbox.com. They all have free accounts available
  • Upload the file to the file sharing site
  • Make the link shareable
  • Share the link to the file here
For screenshots please use the Windows Snipping tool. These are far easier to read than photos taken with your phone.

On many Windows systems you can also use <Windows-key><Shift><S>
On Windows 11 the images taken with <Windows-key><Shift><S> are automatically saved in the Screenshots folder under Pictures

Could you post a screenshot of the values being entered into the box creator gadget?

Something is not quite right as the toolpath tracing is set for a 0.15 diameter cutter (twice 0.075) but the Profile Toolpath is set to use a 0.25 in cutter:

Try Using a .125" Diameter Bit for the Profile Toopath.

After further reviewed the tabs would still be .025" bigger Using the .125" Diameter Bit.

Yup, need to see the Gadget Setup Parameters.

After more trial and error ----

I have been able to DUPLICATE the Op's Vectors using the Box Creator Gadget. The Op must have used a .050" Allowance along with the other dimensions. With this Allowance puts the Toolpath at .075" out away from the Actual Profile Vector.

Ok made another box and it came out pretty good. Lesson for a newbi after you select the tool in the gadget do not change it in the tool path setting because you think the cut will take to long. It appears the only changes you can make in the tool path settings are related to passes and tabs. Thanks everyone for their help.
