I would like to solicit design ideas for automated end mill positioning technology. I have an application where the tip of the end mill needs to be known to within 0p2mm (X,Y,Z). Method needs to be automated. Automation would report results to computer via a standard interface such as RS232, RS485, ethernet.
Assembly techniques are not reliable. By assembly technique, I mean a mechanical apparatus fixes the end mill into spindle followed by tightening. Too many "human error" and mechanical uncertainties exist for a reliable assembly method.
Does a common technology exist where the financial expenditure are less than $5K USD? Automated Optical Interpretation?

Re: End Mill Position Evaluation
Do you mean something like a laser tool measurement device?

Rcnewcomb,
I thank you for your reply.
Yes, you have demonstrated an example of what I search for.
Will you please furnish the name of a commercial vendor?
