Truncated Cone

Post by SomeCNCGuy »

Just wondering if anybody has created a Gadget that will calculate and create a toolpath that will cut the side panel for a Truncated Cone?

Would the "Chamfer Gadget" help? Or, if you are running v10.x of VCarve or Aspire the chamfer toolpath?

You could also do this with a moulding toolpath.

And, another method: The fluting toolpath:

You could use the Moulding Toolpath.

I am thinking the OP wants the flat layout of a truncated cone. . . . like sheet metal.

Here's a calculator for the layout of the side: https://www.templatemaker.nl/en/cone/
The .svg option will make a file with the proper vectors you can import.

Yes that is exactly what I am enquiring about. In my work I frequently have to create Truncated Cones. I am aware of the math involved in creating a panel (ie. Sheet Metal) but I find it somewhat laborious to calculate the math and do the layout in Aspire 10.5. There are many Calculators & tools for creating Truncated Cones available on the internet so it seems to me that a gadget to create a Toolpath in VCarve and Aspire would be a welcome addition.
