Thanks adze! Now this is where it got interesting. I downloaded your Circle gadget and did not rename it at all. Now that I set .zip files to open in VCarve Pro within the properties window, it installed in V12.010 and V10.515 Pro versions without a hitch. No rename required. Go figure!

Click on the Watch on Youtube to watch video.

Here is a link to a video showing the Install process into V-Carve Pro (process is very much the same in other Vectric Products that accept Gadgets --- Apsire, etc...)

As per my last post vgadget files and zip files are the same thing. If you associate a zip file with VCarve then it will treat it the same as a vgadget file.

Yes but I am thinking that is not something I want to continue. When you make that change in properties, it will then open ALL .zip files with vcarve pro. Probably not a good idea.
The part that I still don't understand is that the downloads did show the .zip file extension with the name. I followed the instructions to change the file extension name by backspacing the cursor to remove the .zip extension and replaced it with .vgadget. Exactly as shown in the video. When I hit enter the name changed immediately but the warning pop up did NOT display. Now, after all the PIA, Windows 10 is working as it should. I change the file extension name and the pop up warning displays and only after I confirm my choice does the extension change. Sometimes I think Microsoft just likes to mess with people.
Thank you sharkcutup for the video. While I already had it figured out, I am sure that the instruction to modify the view to display file extensions will help someone in the future. But like I mentioned above, the file extension was displayed as part of the download name. There is no reason it should not have worked out of the gate!!

Well then have you considered that the .zip extension is not an acceptable and/or compatible extension for the Vectric Gadget install and that there may be a reason the Vectric Technology Staff created the software as such?

Just saying ------

Kind of the point really. If .zip extensions are not compatible, and that is as it should be, then why doesn't the forum allow .vgadget attachments to upload? Why the extra step which requires a setting within Windows to be correct when the default setting is not compatible? Even with the rare anomaly that I encountered, there would not have been any issue if the gadget was in the .vgadget extension in the first place.

I contacted Vectric support and asked if they could reconsider that restriction. As it was pointed out by others within the thread, that would amount to "problem solved". I guess we'll see how that goes. I hope that if there is a good technical reason for the restriction, that they will inform me/us. Otherwise it seems like a no brainer.

Would it be easier if you named the files, something.vgadget.x and then just tell people to rename it by removing the .x at the end. It should still give the "changing the extension" message but not much up the rename as I don't think .x is recognized. Or pick something else that is likely safe, maybe .tmp?

Not sure when it changed but it appears you can attach vgadget files to posts now.

Plus quite a few other file types which I don't recall being available last time I checked. Admittedly that was quite a while ago though.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

If this is true then that is awesome. I will be posting a New Gadget -- The Digital Joint Maker Gadget soon so that will be a good trial run. I also see that you have already attached a .vgadget file in your post --- Awesome never dawned on me to try it in the past. Thank You, Adrian for checking on that!

Thanks Adrian, it works just fine. Now that I have a request in at Vectric Support to fix a problem that isn't.

By the way, I never did thank Sharkcutup, for his useful gadget. Thanks! Also a shout out to all the others that have written some of these clever and useful gadgets.

Well I have added Three More Games to the Game Board Maker Gadget which is now Version1.8.

Games are Dominoes, Ludo, and Sequence (A Larger Material Board Size is needed for this Game Board)

Also with this Version you do not have to rename the File just install it as is after you download it from my Drop Box.
