Hello All,

Here is the First Release of the Game Board Maker. This Gadget creates Game Board Vector Layouts. Each Game Board Layout comes with Vectors layed out on Several Layers for ease of creating Toolpaths. There are Twenty-One(21) Game Board Layouts to choose from.

Rename to Game Board Maker_Ver1.0.vgadget

Current Version: 1.0
Supports: 12.0 versions of VCarve Pro, and Aspire -- Not sure about any of the other previous Vectric Versions for it has been created in Version 12.009

Installation Instructions:

1. Download the gadget Game Board Maker_Ver1.0.zip that is attached to this post.
2. Rename it from Game Board Maker_Ver1.0.zip to Game Board Maker_Ver1.0.vgadget
3. In Vectric Pro or Aspire click on Gadgets -> Install New Gadget and navigate to where you downloaded the file to, select it and click Ok.

It should give you a pop up saying the gadget was installed and you should see Game Board Maker Ver1.0 in the Gadgets Menu. After Installing Close Program then Restart Program for using Gadget.


Next up ---
Monitor Gadget Activity via this forum. Also if there are any other recommended Game Board Layouts you would like to see added to the Gadget bring them up I will see what can be done to add them.

If you find an issue with the gadget, please let me know. I will do what I can to fix it within hours not days and/or weeks.

Hey Shark,
Great gadget. Loaded without any errors.
I was able to load every game without any errors.
Didn't check to see if there were any open vectors, but that's a small easy fix if there are.
One small thing I seen with the Aggravation 4 and 6 Player,
The Stars were not centered on the circles.
I know it doesn't affect the game but my OCD kicking in.

Interesting. I found a couple of things I'd change if it was me.

On my laptop, 4K 16" screen, the initial box is 1/4 the size necessary to see the drop down and buttons. and the text in the buttons is very small.

If you can, I'd figure out the job size and center and scale the game board to fit. Right now it seems to be placed just off the lower left edge. Guess if I changed the reference to center instead of lower left it might make more sense. Maybe add a note to set the reference to center before clicking OK.

There is a note on gadget menu interface that says that the gadget is best used with x and y datum at the center. It also recommends a material board size of 22.0" (x) and 24.5" (y)

I will look at increasing size of menu interface so that things are not so small on the next revision.

I just tested it to create a Monopoly board. As I live in Sweden we use the metric system, I created a new file with the dimension 450 x 450 mm. The board came out at 17,5 x 17,5 mm
It was easy to select all vectors, press Shift key and drag it to the correct dimensions.
I re-tested it by creating a new file in imperial, 24 x 24 inches, the board was created at 17,5 x 17,5 inches,
Fun gadget that I certainly will use.

2.) Fixed the Stars not centered on its PiP (Aggravation 4 and 6 player game boards).

I will look into the metric capabilities of the gadget. It is always great to see that there is also a work around (Select all vectors, hold Shift key down and go to any corner and drag to whatever size is required) in the meantime! It can also be sclaed usig the Size Tool (Set Selected Objects Size in Transform Objects).

In Game Board Maker Tools_Ver1.7.xlua there is a function PresentMessage that takes 3 arguments:

Code: Select all

function PresentMessage(Header, Type, Line) -- Provides user information on an Error messages

But, many instances pass 4 or even 5:

e.g. line 34:

Code: Select all

PresentMessage("Alert", "Rotary Job was Selected", "This Gadget will not work on Job Type Rotary.", 165)

e.g. line 75:

Code: Select all

PresentMessage("Alert", "XY Datum - Bottom Left Corner", "Bottom Left Corner XY Datum Position cannot be used with this gadget. Select the Center XY Datum.", "400", 165)

Line 607: the variable y is being treated as an integer but in line 603 it is defined as a string.

Line 626: there is a "function GetMaterialSettings()" the Joint in lines 635 to 641 doesn't seem to be used anywhere else.
