Lets Make A Garden Bench

Post by Todd Bailey »

Todd takes on one of his largest projects to date in this three-part video series on how to make a wonderful garden bench. Over the series, he will show you the steps he took to turn an initial rough sketch into a functional bench with a bespoke 3D carving added. The process and information Todd shares will help you to better understand how to use your Vectric software. On top of that, if you are a VCarve Pro user thinking of upgrading to Aspire or a new Aspire user the basic tools used to create the custom 3D carving will make you want to dig even deeper into Aspire's set of tools!

Follow along through this series of videos and you will have all you need to make your own Garden Bench including the files he creates. Todd will be in the chat during the premiere events for all three videos to answer any questions you might have.

Click the videos below and "Set A Reminder" so you won't miss out on being one of the first to see them. If you're not subscribed to our channel yet be sure to click the bell so you'll get notified of any new posts we add!

Video 2 - Easy 3D Modeling

Video 3 - In The Labs

Todd will be using version 11 of both VCarve Pro and Aspire, so if you are not yet on V11 or have been on the fence about upgrading to Aspire, you may find it helpful to have a free trial version of either installed.

At 3:00pm BST we will be releasing the first video in the 3 part bench series.

In this first video, Todd starts out with a quick sketch and ends up with everything he needs to cut a 2D version thanks to VCarve Pro V11. He will touch on many of the tools included in VCarve Pro including 2 new features of V11: Sheets and resizing vectors individually all at one time! Sheets has changed the way Todd uses his software. This feature allows you to keep the most complicated job in order and all in one file while the ability to size a group of vectors individually in one click is a time-saver you wish you always had.

At 3:00pm BST we will be releasing the second video in the 3 part bench series.

Starting off with the file he created in the first video he will design a simple bespoke 3D carving for the back of the bench. Adding value to a project is easy even if you are new to Aspire or are only confident with a few of the basic 3D modeling features.

At 3:00pm BST we will be releasing the third video in the 3 part bench series.

In the first two videos in of this three-part series you were taken through the steps Todd used to design, 3D customize and create the proper toopaths to make a garden bench in the labs. In this final installment, he will take those toolpaths into the labs and get cutting. Having to use materials that are far from perfect leads to some interesting fixturing and challenges. Once everything is cut and sanded it's time to get it all put together and test it.
