Free Project of the Month - Parish Pump Planter
This free project was inspired by Parish Water Pumps that were (and are) located at the heart of many communities throughout the world. It was the responsibility of each parish to provide water for its residents. This was achieved in many cases by means of a village water pump - a.k.a., the Parish Pump.
Watch the full video on the project being made here:
This Parish Pump Planter makes a nice home decor item and is sure to catch the eye of visitors and guests! The pump handle actually swings up and down in a pumping action, for no reason other than just to add a bit of fun and overall appeal.
Michael used the Aspire software to create the Pump and Spout models, then exported a single merged STL model for import into VCarve. A few features used in this project included import Bitmap, Rail Sweep, Moulding Toolpath, Inlay Toolpath, Drawing, and Node editing tools, Snapping features, Fixed Nudge, and the Interactive Trim.

Michael,
Not that you need any tips however, I’ve found that when I use wooden dowels for alignment I (sometimes) get too much glue and I glue the dowel in. I now use brass dowels for that purpose and they push right out. Apparently any glue that gets on them, by mistake of course, doesn’t adhere.

Fun project and good video, Michael. I made two versions for Mother's Day, one in maple and the other in cedar. I changed the pump rod eyes to a clevis and added embossment to the handle. They were well received. I posted a video in case anyone is interested.

Hi Dwayne,
Well, what a wonderful surprise! You did a fantastic job on both of your Parish Pumps and I love your idea to personalize and customize them!
Glorious icing on the cake is your video! Thank you so very much for that. Not only is it fun to watch and listen to your documentary, it is inspirational to others wanting to “dive in” and do their own Parish Pump versions!
Thanks again for taking time to make the video and share it with me and the Forum Community!

Michael
I finally found the time to do the Parish Pump Project. It was a lot of fun and I greatly appreciate your efforts in keeping us all busy in these trying times. I ended making 3 of the pumps as my wife told my daughters that they would each have one. Management has spoken, and the work force swung into action.
Thanks again Michael they are truly inspiring to all of us.

Nice job on all three. Is that a white 'wash' on the pumps, or just a very light wood?RobertD wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 3:53 pmMichael
