FREE Project - Andy Bird - Light Up Santa

Post by Olly »

In this episode of Make Something That Sells, I'm making this light-up Santa decor for Vectric's Holiday Makeoff! Using two Santa graphics, I combined them to create a unique vector design with techniques learned from Vectric. After tracing outlines and smoothing lines for clean vectors, I set up toolpaths for pocketing and profiling. The project was machined from two 3/4" layers of pine, with LED lights added for a festive touch. Total material costs were $23 and in the video I share where, who, and how much I would sell this for. Of course, if you want to make this for yourself or a loved one that's completely possible too! Selling just 49 of these could pay off a $4,000 CNC machine! By leveraging social sharing, local connections, and online platforms, this project shows how creativity and strategic pricing can transform your CNC hobby into a profitable venture.

A great project. There is a problem but I don't think it's with the design. I'm using Aspire V12.010. I just opened the file and selected the recalculate all tool and get the standard error messages that the tools will cut through the material. Then at the end of the recalculations there is an error message as shown in the attachment. It's with toolpaths that don't exist. I'm pretty sure it's because the toolpaths were on a sheet that was deleted. I have ran into this problem several times since the release of Version 12 and I thought it would have been fixed by now.

Hi Steve,
It seems like that file has some toolpaths that are not connected to any specific sheet, but they do exist in the file. If you switch to showing "All Sheets" in the toolpath tree you will be able to see them and should be able to select them and remove them. We will look to get the file cleaned up so that it does not contain these unused toolpaths.

For reference these can be created if you delete a sheet that has toolpaths on but choose to keep the toolpaths. These then have no sheet associated with them until they are recalculated on a new sheet.

If you are creating a lot of toolpaths that have no sheet association it is probably that you have selected to always keep the toolpaths when deleting a sheet. You can switch this option under the 'Confirmation Choices' section at the bottom of the options dialog. Check that the 'Sheet Toolpath Deletion Check' is not set to 'Keep Toolpaths' if it is then you will be automatically keeping toolpaths when you delete a sheet,

Thanks for letting us know,
Stu

Hi all,

The file has been updated and re-uploaded to V&Co.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

If you have any other issues please just let us know, hopefully that’s fixed everything.

Thanks
Stephanie
