Problem with molding toolpath

Post by hmatyas »

I am slowly trying to learn Bob'sCNC Revolution. I got a piece of material to be round, now I want to make something usefull from it.

The problem that I am having is trying to machine a mallet. I drew a figure and then I used the molding toolpath I made the mallet. The problem is where the router buried itself into the workpiece. I could not figure out how to attach gcode to this message, but this is my problem. Looking at the gcode, the z axis goes from 44.2 mm to 36.58 mm (right above the work piece, then it goes to 28.96 mm ( where I start turning everything off). Then it would go to 28.32. On my material setup, the model position in material is 31.5 mm (which should be 63 mm diameter of the mallet).
I am completely missing some main concept!
Thanks,
Harvey

On the left side of the mallet profile (the business end) why did you draw the vertical line to the centre? On the knob end the same question.

Also, your rail is outside the bounds of the material.

Maybe something like this? I'll post the file if you want it.

Yesterday, I did figure out what Steve suggested. I wanted to add something to prevent the bit from cutting the piece right off of the machine. Thanks for the help.
