I just completed my first rotary project.... boy, did I learn a lot.
I started with a 3.5-inch square piece of 4x4. I knew there was a good chance I'd destroy it. First, a major problem with rounding. My first test with a 2x2 and a 1/4 inch bit went OK. Except, the bit kept drilling into the end of the workpiece. This also happened with my 4x4. I had my finger over the STOP button. I finally think I have it figured out. At least it hasn't happened since. I had created a model of the rounded part, then deleted the part before I re-entered the rounding toolpath again. I had taken out the model from the toolpaths list, but had not remove the zero plane that had been automatically placed there. I think since the zero plane was set at work center it somehow figured it had to drill a hole to the work center. I removed it and the problem went away. Is this possible, or am I just trying to associate an unrelated event?
Anyway, I think my friend will be happy with her new rolling pin. Her son added shelving around the kitchen near the ceiling. She has her collection of memorabilia displayed there.

That is excellent. There is no limit. I fell in love with my rotary work. I have done Baseball bats with engravings (V-Carve), Chess pieces (king is 10 inches tall), Venus-De-Milo, Eggs, Balls, Apples, Nesting Table Legs, Threads, Barley Twist Speaker stands. The list goes on. The beauty is that they are repeatable, consistent and accurate.
Nice work, keep posting your results.
