Rotary project woman statue

Post by mzgrk »

Hello,
My project is to make a nude statue of my wife in piece of ebony wood.
its the very first time i use 4th axis. i read/watched some tutorials.
i wanted to make a try first with a random free model i find on internet (on picture) I created project on vcarve pro, but when i preview the toolpath it look good but there is something... the spread between legs and underarm is filled... why the toolpath doesnt make the hole between legs and under arm ?
the statue was supposed to be in the middle of the piece of wood (in my mind) and i cut under feet and over hair by hand and then sand.
my toolpath is "3D finishing"

thanks

Vectric software doesn't support undercuts. A workaround may be to cut this using 4-sided machining rather than as a rotary job. You can still use the rotary to hold the material. You would issue a command to rotate the material 90 degrees between each step of the 4-sided job.

You could use Cut3D if you have it which supports 4 sided machining.

Otherwise to do this is VCarve or Aspire you would need two sets of jobs:
  • A front-back job
  • A left-right side job where you import the model turned 90 degrees when you import it
Your challenge will be to ensure the model in the front-back job is perfectly aligned with the model in the left-right job.

Even in other CAM packages the undercuts have to be set up as separate toolpaths.
