Half/Split columns using two 2x4s
Held two 2x4s with a round disk on each end and machined them on the rotary to end up with two half or split columns. This way it appears you have pieces with undercuts. I was very conservative on the rounding for this one so the total cut time was just under 28 minutes. I can probably get this down to 15 minutes, i.e. about 7.5 minutes per split column piece.

Nicely done Russ!
There is a technique you can use that turners use quite often.
Put a piece of wrapping paper (or a paper bag works well) between them with some glue. That will hold them together nicely while turning yet allow them to be split apart easily when finished.
I really like your disc technique and I am going to put that in my bag of tricks for plain old turning.

Dear Randall
Looks good (and quick)
For those without 'rotary' or a 5th axis - it is possible to make columns from flat stock and an 18mm Radius Cutter. But not quick!
Sincerely and in good faith
