Notched Column

Post by cgilmore »

Hello,
I'm working on creating a rounded column with text on it. This i have done before. Now i would like to notch out the back of the column, I'm trying to create applied outside corner on a cabinet. How do i set this up i a wrapped feature so my text is positioned correctly once notch is cut? I'm using Aspire 11.5 for the software.

Thanks,
Woodchuck

It might be easier to do an XYZ pocket cut to make the corner pocket after the rest is done while on the rotary axis. Alternatively you could cut the pocket before mounting the rough square block on the rotary axis. It would just take some thoughtful aligning when setting the A axis zero point.

If neither of the other two option I listed above will do, then you can make a square notch on the rotary. Draw a cross section view of the leg with where on the perimeter you want the notch shown and the perimeter circle. Then use the "Unwrap selected object" tool to make a vector you can use with the moulding toolpath to cut the notch. In the example I've attached I deleted the part of the provide vector to leave just the section that will make the notch. That way it shouldn't interfere with any other carving you have on the leg. The guideline should be just the vertical height you want the notch to be and located where you want it to be on the leg.

You'll need to do a bit of chisel cleanup to account for the radius of the bit you use in the inner corners.
