I am trying to make a South Carolina flag. The "Palm Tree No.2" model would work except I need the tree to be standing straight with no bend in the trunk. The moon from the collection "Happy Campers No.1" could work but ideally, it needs to be closed up a little more.

Does anyone know of a tree that is not bent or can anyone modify the existing model and straighten it out? Also, someone to modify or make the crescent moon. Or could someone walk me through the process of modifying these files? Please and thank you.

Respectfully

Hello Tim...

Do you have Aspire? If so you could distort the tree and make it stand up straight.

If you have VCarve you could use level clipping and clip off the top of the tree and straighten it out... fixing the trunk would be the challenging part.

Let me know if you do have Aspire and if not... I'll have a mess around with a couple of ideas.

Sorry, I should have put that in my original post.

Yes, I have Aspire 10.

Hello Tim...

Seeing as you have access to Aspire you could tackle this in a couple of different ways...

- model it from scratch... but seeing as you are asking that is not something you are looking to take on... :)

- So... I have attached a quick version I created in Aspire using the following method.
-- Imported in the model
-- Created a vector from the component
-- Cut the vector in two parts - top and trunk.
-- Finish off the bottom of the top portion of the outline.
-- Delete the trunk portion.
-- Use the top vector to "split" the top off the trunk - you will then have 2 parts
-- Mess around with the top... using 2 copies to make a new top (merged and tilted them in place - mirrored on so it looked better and scaled one down)
-- Used the distort tool to straighten out the trunk... and then put it where it belonged.
-- BINGO!

I know it is not perfect, and I could have modeled a much better version from scratch... but for those that are not up for that experience... this worked out OK.

Let me know what you think.

Thank you. That is what I was looking for.

I still have a lot to learn with this software, but so far I like it. I am told Aspire is not intended to be a CAD program per se. Is there a program that you would recommend I consider adding to my toolbox? I need to make some gun stocks and pistol grips for example.

You do not need to look any further to make gun stocks or pistol grips, Check this out
