Re: Laser Settings
I can see areas in the grain that resisted burning (example the lower right area on the outer ring). You can see the other areas in the pattern and did the same thing. I get the same thing on Red Oak. (example from yesterday attached)
Have you tried to increase your laser power or decrease speed to improve it? What's the spot size in the laser tool set to? (mine is 0.0075")

Re: Laser Settings
Perhaps there are ways to improve the burns, but I think both examples look great! (I happen to like the “character” of slight burn variation over the wood grain.)

Re: Laser Settings
To make an engraving stand out more crisply:
-Start with a lacquered piece of wood – 3 thin coats
-Laser engrave
-Using liquid shoe polish, Brown works best, liberally smear the shoe polish over the area lasered being sure there are no holidays in the smear job
-Quickly wipe off the polish with paper towels and then go back over with a terry cloth or cotton tee shirt (Note spray a light coat of “Windex – glass cleaner on the terry cloth or tee shirt to wipe off excess polish - the damp Windex cloth works well to remove any staining on the lacquered surface resulting from the polish)
Repeat as desired for deeper coloring

Re: Laser Settings
Thanks for the tips.
Trying different power and feed rates.
Where can I find spot size to adjust?

Re: Laser Settings
These 3 settings are what I adjust for spot size. My 4.2W J-tech laser has a 0.0075" spot size with the precision lens
