Re: Changing BOB and Mach3
Gary,
I took a quick stroll thru the Macro PDF - Looks good.
That is a PLUS 1 on Centroid - maybe there are more plusses - I will explore a bit deeper

Gary --- OK ---- Centroid is looking good.
For one thing I trust you and your level of expertise.
I also like that Centriod is USA made and supported.
It seems that with some DETAILED information from me we can design a complete "package" for what I really want. I would go with either PRO or Ultimate level. I am NOT all that savy about the wiring or software "setup" so Tech support is critical.
I need to watch all the videos that are pertinent to what I want. I will certainly want to add on additional external devices - coolant - mist - air solenoid activation for air blast and other fancy stuff. I want a control that can do a GREAT job with 3D carvings.
Should I work thru YOU of directly thru Centroid. I have nothing to hide. If you get a commission, I will go thru YOU for the purchase.
Not ready yet - but maybe this winter some time.

+1 for Gary.
I worked with him on my last latest CNC, and I've been very pleased with his guidance, the machine, and the follow-up support.

Full disclaimer here: By winter I am hoping to have a number of control boxes listed for sale on the Centroid website similar to the ones on the WInCNC site. If you purchase a stepper based system it will be built and supported by one of my sub-builders, as I am currently only building servo based wholesale controllers for resellers. Very few, if any, sales to end users, and then only servo systems.
With your experience level, you might want to spend some time on the Centroid Acorn Support Forum. That is how the Acorn product is supported by Centroid. They also have a "by the hour" support program but few have needed it. There are a large number (thousands) of previous Mach users that may be able to give you a heads up, should you decide to build your own.

Re: Changing BOB and Mach3
I have been perusing the Centroid website.
I am liking what I see.
I would like to see the software a bit more.
I am not a pro at all with electronics, but I have changed out boards in industrial machines - with phone help.
I have changed computer cards - video - network and so forth.
I am NOT afraid to try.
From what I am seeing an upgrade with Centroid should be relatively painless.
I don't like wireless - on my CNC pendant. I have a nice wired pendant that I would like to keep.
Can I add macro to Acorn and Pro level.
I do not want to replace the Yako stepper drivers - will Acorn work with Yako
I have 1 Z axis Stepper - with Yako Driver
I have 1 X axis Stepper - with Yako Driver
I have 2 Y axis Stepper - with Yako Driver
I have 1 A axis rotary Stepper - with Yako Driver
That is 4 axis - but I have 5 stepper motors
Will Acorn and Pro level drive that?

Re: Changing BOB and Mach3
There is a couple of features on the pendant that I like, but I am not real trusting of wireless.
How does it handle a battery going dead?
Seems a dangerous thing to trust

Leo ..
If they worked with Mach (step & direction) then they will work with Acorn.
Your 4 axis, 5 motor config will work (requires pro), but you will not be able to implement independent auto square. You should register and post your questions on the Acorn forum, the user base is strong, Centroid staff even stronger

Re: Changing BOB and Mach3
Gary,
Thank you for you comments. I really do appreciate them.
I am thinking about going for the GOLD.
Probe - Tool Touch probe - Wireless Pendant - Acorn Kit - CNC 12 Pro.
I may even add in a touch screen monitor. I have a job coming up that should pay for the whole package.
Centroid sounds really good.
Not just Gary - but other that mentioned Centroid or Acorn. I am liking what I am seeing.
Thank you to everyone that commented even if it was not about Centroid.

Leo...
I have a number of systems out there that are using a touchscreen & MPG pendant, no keyboard or mouse. It works well for the inexperienced as they don't muff things up by entering the wrong data in the MDI and also makes experienced users with ATC pretty smiley too.

I can only dream of ATC.
Maybe some day there is another upgrade to my machine.

Re: Changing BOB and Mach3
I'm using the Vectric supplied Centroid post processor and it works with no issues.
