Dust Boot - Touch Plate

Post by Luvtocarve »

Has anyone had this happen?
I recently purchased a touch plate for my Next Wave CNC. Everything worked great and still does if I don't use my dust shoe. I can set the Z and start the file with the shoe off and everything is good. As soon as I put the shoe on, my Z only cuts about 1/2 the depth. This happens even if I set the Z with the plate when the shoe in place. If I take it back off and re-start, I'm back to the correct depth. Very perplexing...

Can adjust the height of you dust shoe? If so, set it so that for a cut it will never touch the material. Does it now cut the full Z?

i.e. Is there some sensor in your machine that says: the dust shoe bottoms out therefore I can't go any deeper lest I damage the machine?

I also have a Pirahna XL but have not experienced this issue, how far does your bit extend out of the router? Is your boot bottoming out your Z axis? The bit length is the only thing I can think that could cause this looking at the set up if you are using the Nextwave boot. Does the bit extend far enough out of the boot to allow the cut?

Thanks fir the suggestions. I do think I can drop the bit a bit and try it. The brush was hitting the material surface but was only cutting .055 so I didn’t really consider that might be an issue.

I don't know how the touch plate works on a Piranha but mine plugs into the control box. If yours works similarly try unplugging it before carving.
