Collet question
I just started using a new spindle with a different collet than what was on my Bosch router, I have attached a picture of the collet I am now using. The problem I am having is when I loosen the collet nut the collet stays in the spindle, I can not get it out by hand and find myself using a pair of pliers to twist it loose, the collet nut is off completely, is this normal or am I over tightening the collet nut?
Thank You
Thank You

Re: Collet question
The collet should snap into the collet nut before the collet nut is screwed onto the spindle.

Here's another one Scott;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBrPjyA ... dex=4&t=0s
Don't forget to blow out spindle cone/nut/and collet during a tool change and check for damage from pliers!
ER-20???
I clean spindle cone about every 30-40 hours of normal cutting.
Think you'll like it once used to it!!

Just another short basic one Scott;

Re: Collet question
Just curious Scott as I started right out with a spindle and ER-20 collets.
Are you noticing any difference in the cut quality?
Less fuzzies....a little crisper from less runout?
Whose adapter did you buy....Precisebits?
Just wondering how much difference collet/cone/nut makes without actually going the whole spindle.
Glad to help after Gerry got the problem right off:)

Re: Collet question
Good Morning Scott ! I can not really compare because the new collet is attached to a new spindle that is attached to a new machine .
Sorry I can not help with your curiosity.

Re: Collet question
Have only completed some basic signs so far, No fun small projects, Attached is the first carve, my wife had an end table she no longer wanted so I thought I would turn it into a sign for her coffee corner, She loves it, I still see the z miss step on the right side of the coffee cup, not sure if I caused it when I paused the machine overnight at the same time it was paused I also pulled the dust collector out of the dust boot cleaned the table and stuck it back in.

Re: Collet question
NICE little corner Scott:)
(although even here at the moment I'm Chilling my coffee after the first cup:)
Don't think it would have been removing dust foot and cleaning table.
Most likely wood movement overnight from the cut.
Was that a cutting board before?
Then even more likely newly exposed raw wood sucked up some moisture and moved.
Glad the Customer was happy!!
(She should be:)

Re: Collet question
It was an old end table, that board was about 30x21. Still have these 2 at 21x16 to play with.

Re: Collet question
Nicely re-purposed Scott!
If you carved through the existing finish, then most likely wood movement if you paused the cut and left machine on.
We have different machines and machine software, but the few times I've left machine Paused...
I have a "Nudge" in my pop-up window, and will usually move my Z-Zero up .01" and do half a line to see if it moved in any direction. Then "Nudge" (Change axis Zero) and lower Z-Zero until it matches.
Easy enough usually to knife/chisel/sand down 1 or 2 lines IF I stopped at a good spot.
Usually though I'll plan my day around cuts so I can run the cut all the way the same day.
BUT, if you hadn't pointed that out, I'd never have noticed it even though I looked at pic full sized:)
I WAS going to ask what your new/new/new machine was, but see you posted it:)
You must be liking a spindle I imagine?
