Tablet for Vcarve desktop

Post by dawright »

To keep peace in the house looking for a minimal tablet for using vcarve. Assume it will need specs from site:
2 Ghz multi Core CPU
4Gb RAM with Windows Vista & Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10
300 Mb Disk space (Program)
USB drive required for USB Media Pack if purchased.
7.7GB Additional disk space required if you wish to store
the tutorials and clipart supplied, on your hard drive.
Display: 1024 x 768 Graphics display
Operating System:Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 or Windows 10 with 4Gb RAM

Not necessarily going to be main unit but enough to do some design while others are on laptop

Any reason for a tablet rather than a laptop?

I would go for a inexpensive laptop. An inexpensive laptop is probably faster than an inexpensive tablet. Remember, the tablet must run Windows. Also, don't get 'Windows S'. I was just reading that they only run stuff from the Microsoft store.

Thinking tablet just for travel if needed. Get the speed factor but thinking as a dedicated device with nothing else running it may not be an issue as much, but valid point.
Some good prices on refurbished Microsoft Surface out there for sure

I ran VCarve on a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 with no issues at all. It has a 3rd generation i7 with 8 GB RAM. Although it is a tablet, I always used the keyboard. They are now up to Generation 7, so I'm sure used ones of the previous generations should be very cheap. They are robust as well, as I found out when I dropped it and the screen broke. It still works though! But the packing tape on the screen is ugly and the touch screen stopped working, so I upgraded to a 2nd generation Surface Book for an excellent price.
