X axis stops
I have an Industrial CNC Router.
When I move the x axis move about 3 ft , left to right, and stops. I have checked the gears and have also replace a linear bearing thta i thought was bad. Their are no nicks or other things that appear to be causing this . It has been an on going problem. I have switched the x and y cables. The x axis still stops. This is not a smooth stop but more like something binding, the x motion has a jerky back and forth jerky motion. To get the x axis to move again I have to push the gantry manually. If I manually push the gantry to the lest several inches it will work.
Can any one help me??? The CNC seems to be working fine until the x axis reaches this point of travel. I have reset both hard and soft limits. The problem does not go away. Below are the specs for my CNC.
Can any one help me ?????

Re: X axis stops
Have you switched around the X and Y motors to see if the problem follows the motor?

Re: X axis stops
No I have not. It's a good idea. If the motors are interchangeable I will try it. I think it is a hardware Problem. Not software. I did disconnected the x motor. The motor seemed to turn freely for awhile but then stopped. I was thinking maybe a bad wire. If I have time after coming back from the North Eastern Wood Working show I will switch the motors.Rcnewcomb wrote:Have you switched around the X and Y motors to see if the problem follows the motor?

Re: X axis stops
Try swapping the X axis with the Y axis motor - if the problem goes away - it's the motor.
sounds like you have covered everything else

Re: X axis stops
I am headed to a regional woodworking show today. Hopefully when I get back I can try switching the motors.
I will keep you posted. Thanks for the help.

Re: X axis stops
Another thought... Take the motors clear out so they don't provide any resistance to the system, and see if your machine moves freely. If it does, then it's related to a motor, if it still binds, then you know it's not motor related.

Re: X axis stops
Chris ,
I have pulled the motor before . everything appears to work fine. Nothing on the gantry seems to be binding.. Checked and re checked all gears and also re zeroed table and reset limits. The problem remains. Headed out to try switching x and y motors....

OK
I just switched the motors and with the switch I still have the problem with the x movement.... I guess I will try running new wires..... Anyone have any other suggestions..

Re: X axis stops
If the problem is always on the X axis no matter which way you cable it then I suspect something on the feed (screw or rack) that binds when the nut or gear gets to that point. If the rack is screwed down then one of the screws may even be out of line with all the others and could cause the same results.

Re: X axis stops
Problem solved.. I switched the wire at the motor with the z axis. Using the z for x control. My x axis travels the entire distance. I did it 3 times in both directions. Now I need to replace the wire....
How nice it feels to have a problem solved. Thanks for the help...
