Help With Attaching Chuck

Post by Jeff Johnson »

I am completely new to the rotary or wood lathe, completely . I have everything in motion and spinning and all I need is a tailstock and a way to hook a chuck up to my gear box. So my question is how do I attach a chuck to my gearboxes 5/8 shaft ? It has a key way . Do the chucks you buy attach to these then use a set screw, or does everyone use a face plate? Any ideas, or how did everyone do theirs ? I just really need to know how to take off from the 5/8 shaft ?

You can get someone to make an adapter for you. It will fit onto the keyed shaft and be threaded to accept the chuck of your choice.
