techno got back with me.
they can run that file at 700 ipm.
exact cut time is 6hrs 5minutes.
somehow their machine runs the code for the time without cutting.

i run at 180 ipm including z.

the exact time that sign took me to cut yesterday was 12 hrs 29 minutes.

have not heard from camaster or shopbot.

i emailed techno with a request - can you go ahead and cut the file in hdu? i want to see how good it does at 700 ipm.
their response was fast -- yes! and with video clips.
they are running a 6hr file for someone who has not committed to a machine. that impresses me for sure.

techno is on it.
they had to buy a long .125 ball nose to cut it.
said they will cut it monday, probably post it tuesday.

iwould be curious if anyone on this forum owns a muticam 3000. no one has ever mentioned one. maybe too much money for this groups needs.

if anyone is running 3d at 700 ipm, please post.

Running a 3D toolpath with a feed rate of 700ipm and achieving that speed are two different things. 3D work is constrained by the speed the Z can move.

Hopefully not off topic. Adrian last sentence caught my eye. I've been watching with interest Bill Griggs development of what he calls his "Warp Drive" Z axis. Although not a new concept, Bill has developed a R&P Z carriage that can be built out of MDF or aluminium. May be worth a look http://www.makermasters.com/ for those interested.

got the techno video today.
cut it perfect. 7 hrs and 1 minute. jamie told me it would be 7 hr 1 minute. he has a techno and can get a real time cut time before he cuts anything.

my bot took 12 hrs 29 minutes. i cut at 3ips/3ips.
they ran at 700 ipm.

i asked them to send the sign here. i want to see it.
so, am i getting a techno?
we'll see. my bot has served me well, but time is money.

Have you tried the new Beta shopbot software. I use that now and can get my standard up a lot faster than with 3.6.44. Just for an example with 3.6.44 I could surface my table at 8.5 IPS now I can surface it at 12 IPS

Hopefully I'll see you on the Techno side Rob! I agree with Adrian about programmed vs actual speed. But it's the percentage that matters. 40% of 700 ipm is still twice the speed of 40% of 350 IPM. I know I'm not reaching an actual 700 IPM on 3d, but I can outcut my old stepper machine almost 3 to 1 with better finish and absolute positional accuracy.

I could never go back :)

if i were not cutting 3d signs, i would not change.
part of me wants to cut layered 2d with pockets and appliques.
but theme park designs are want i want to do,and life is short, so i'm going to do them.

and if that means i need to speed up, so be it.

called shopbot today and got the quote for the prs standard.
15k and change, delievered to my shop.
2.2 spindle.

great price.
but it is limited to 300 ipm. so there we go. too slow.
at least for full blown 3d. imagine a sign 3'x 6', it could take 24 hours.
some would say - design it 2d with 3d parts. well, the look is not the same. both can be great, but i know what i want.

so it look s at this point to be a techno.
don't be shy here, chime in. i can take it.

Which model Techno is it you're looking at? I thought they had screw drives on the Z which I always thought (although I'm no expert) was slower than rack and pinion.

Right now I am cutting a small 3d file in some hdpe at 8.5 IPS or 510 IPM on my PRS standard. I asked rej to send me his file and I will cut it in some pink foam to see how fast I can push it. I may even throw it on my old PR and see what happens.
