Creating pointed oval
Hi,
Does anyone have a pointed oval svg (have found image files which then have to be traced but would prefer a vector) or knows of an easy way to create them.
Thanks
Steve

Re: Creating pointed oval
What do you mean by pointed oval? If it's a shape with 2 arcs (or beziers) joined together with points on the end, then just create an arc or bezier for one side, flip it, align the corners of the two vectors and use the join tool to close the vectors.

Re: Creating pointed oval
Another way is to draw an oval with the Ellipse tool and then go into node edit mode, select the end nodes and then their handles and press Y to align those nodes on the Y axis.

Re: Creating pointed oval
Is that something asymmetrical like an egg? A symmetrical convex lens shape? A convex lens shape with rounded ends (as with a American football)? Something else?
If it’s a convex lens shape that’s just the overlapping bits of two circles.

Re: Creating pointed oval
Or maybe you are thinking of a leaf shape which could be approximated with two intersecting circular arcs.

Re: Creating pointed oval
Strictly speaking, an oval cannot be pointed by definition.
I will send the teacher in me on coffee break now. Is this what you want ?
This is a pointed ellipse, btw. A 'real' oval would have one axis of symmetry less. O yes, coffee...
or this (having parallel sides, more akin to what people normally think of as 'oval'):
- and now I discover to my dismay that I cannot attach a .SVG... help !
Marcel.

Pictures always help as can be seen by the replies

Is that because the file format is not accepted by the forum? If it is then try exporting as something else like EPS or PDF if either of those is, not sure if changing the file extension still works so just change the file extension for uploading, read somewhere that that use to work but never tried it

Re: Creating pointed oval
Martin,
I intended to attach an .SVG so that Steve (the OP) could work with it, varying size, diameter etc. For just showing the shape, any graphic format (JPEG, PNG, PDF, whatever) would work indeed.
Marcel.

Yes I guessed that Which is why I suggested trying another format that supported VectorsFabLab Wageningen wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 9:31 pmMartin,

Or you could have uploaded it as a CRV file
