Stunning!

I have to humbly admit I did not even know this type of joint. Vertical mounting is impossible on our machine (not enough Z-depth) but it is an interesting concept.

Marcel.

for an interesting read on the historic Knapp joint,

https://www.lumberjocks.com/showcase/kn ... nt.106048/

Highly recommend researching a vertical table mount to new users, it opens up a whole new world of carving.
For me box joints, mortise and tenon joints are most important.

Birds eye joint, a lot of tweaking, three cups coffee, 20 hours.......maybe a Wizard can recommend how to enlarge or shrink this joint? (my next challenge.....)

At 71 youngest of 33 cousins, I'm getting requests for cremation boxes!

most people don't have enough z height to be able to mount workpieces on the CNC table for vertical machining unless they are making small projects. The 2 most common ways of adding vertical machining are to either built a work holding fixture at the end of the CNC table & have the spindle/router travel past the end of the table or have a removable section of the spoilboard
If you have a search on the forum you will find example photos of how people have done this

It's one of those things you only think about after months of trying out your CNC - and finishing all construction work... Our CNC is in a closed housing (Health-and-Safety approved) on a VERY strong table construction. We could in the earlier stages of building have made a sort of removable slot so we could slide objects in. But obviously we did not realise the possibilities. Pity, but I do not think we would use it too often, though.

Posts elsewhere, including from 4DThinker angle adjustable vertical fixture for milling joints on the end.

Love the design and thanks for sharing.

Although not very elegant, this is what I've done with the baseboard of my CNC:

I haven't actually used it yet, but the machine is fixed to the worktop and the baseboard can be removed to give access to the vertical mount. I'm hoping to test this out soon.

This is with the baseboard in position:

Be wary of taking the advice of someone who thinks he knows what he's doing, and don't listen to me!
