Mouse to move screen image

Post by offcenter »

Somewhere I read a post on moving the screen image by holding the (left) mouse button and pressing another key, then dragging the image, rather than using screen slider bars. I remember thinking this was a great tip, but now I can't remember what the key was to accomplish this. I've tried every combination, including alt, ctrl, fn, etc., with no luck. Does someone know of the correct key(s) to use with the mouse to get this accomplished?

thanks

If you have a three button mouse or a clickable wheel you can use that as well.

Select View Controls from the left hand pane in the Help contents.

I swear I tried all combinations, but obviously NOT!! I knew it was something simple, but couldn't remember to save my life.
I'll make sure I write it down in my file of things to remember!

Thanks.

Adrian I tried the mouse wheel and that works too. Maybe with two options I'll remember one!!!

thanks again. I can now sleep at night.

Left mouse button and mouse movement will rotate the 3D image
Right mouse button and mouse movement will zoom. Middle wheel will also zoom
Both left and right mouse buttons held down and mouse movement will move the 3D image

Holding both mouse buttons down and moving the mouse also works great in sculpting if you have Aspire.

To summarize panning:

2D view (drag after...):
  • Ctrl+RightClick
  • Click and hold middle mouse button
3D view (drag after...):
  • Ctrl+LeftClick
  • Ctrl+RightClick
  • Click and hold middle button
  • Click and hold left and right buttons

Other than your ego, I don't think it needed clarity.

  1. posters presumed panning in 3D view rather than 2D (Ctrl+Left-mouse as implied above won't work in 2D—nor any other key plus left-mouse button)
  2. many different methods were spread over upwards of a half-dozen posts. I just figured it'd be nice to have them in one place
