Help a newbie out!

Post by ReneeL1980 »

Hi ..

First of all thanks for reading and hopefully giving me some guidance.

I am a newbie to CNC and I am slowly getting my head around Vectric software.

I am trying to carve a christmas box for my son. I have attached the image I am trying to cut.

I did a tracing of the scroll from an image and added the text, I just want to carve all of this onto a simple piece of pine however each toolpath alerts me to open/duplicate vectors which Im not sure about. Safe to say it looks a hot mess on the 3D view.

Any advice would be soooooo appreciated, slow and steady Ill learn this Im sure!

The basic issue is that you've used a single line font which is meant to be used with the Quick Engrave toolpath or a profile toolpath set to be On the line in which case the open vectors don't matter.

For any other toolpaths it will create a mess as you've seen. Simplest thing to do is to replace that text with a TrueType font (use the radio button in the text tool to switch) and create a v-carve toolpath for that new text.
