Simple way for Raised Text on a 3D model

Post by wb9tpg »

I've wanted to share my way of doing Raised Text on a 3D model using Vcarve as an alternative to v-carving the text into the model. The example file is link is https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Oh5upF ... sp=sharing

I've defined 3 levels on the modeling tab so lets review them bottom to top:

- Dish: This level is my starting 3D model. It could have been any 3D model but I used a Dish from the clipart library for this example.

- Text with Clipping Enabled: This level starts with the flat round circle from the clipart. I set it to Add Mode so the text we'll create will follow the counter of the dish. If you wanted the text flat you can use the Merge Mode instead. Set the thickness to your preferred text thickness. Then select the vectors for your text and go to the Level and turn on Clipping. That remove any part of the flat round circle component that is outside the text. You now have raised text. You can go back and adjust the thickness and it'll update. If you edit your text vectors you'll need to reapply the clipping again.

- Zero plane - totally optional but it improves the preview image.

Now you know how I do raised 3D text in Vcarve.
