drag bit question

Post by kdwiz57 »

I am new to using a drag bit so here is the question. I did an image that was done using the fill option. In areas the was filled the drag bit almost looked like it "tore" material on some passes so it left a very ratty. uneven finish. I used a .001 step over rate with a .028 down pressure on the bit. Should I be using a larger step over? Should I be blowing compressed air on the tip of the bit to reduce any build up while the tool is dragging. I did an image that was outlined with a .03 down pressure and it looked fine.
I am open to suggestions and any tips you might offer.

This is a duplicate post of

(actually the wording does differ a little).

You don’t specify the material so perhaps “tearing” is to be expected?

What type of acrylic are you using. Cast is the preferred acrylic material. Gives good clean lines as opposed to some of the other “Softer” grades

Are you using a diamond drag bit or a 90 deg V Bit?
