Ridgid EB4424 Belt/Spindle Sander

Post by gkas »

This is a great sander. There is a knob on this that holds down the either the spindle or the sanding belt assembly, whichever is installed. It is small, hard to grip, and had left handed threads. I grumbled every time I had to loosen this knob. It definitely takes channel locks. I swear I'll make a helper knob every time I use it, But I usually find something else to do instead.

A little while ago I came across this 3D model in Thingiverse. It can be 3D printed (which I did), imported into Vcarve and cut, or imported into Vcarve, traced and 2D cut. Very handy.

Thank you, Gerry!! Downloading it today and will put away my channel locks - finally!

Hey, I notice you’re using the stop-guard. You don’t know the fun you’re missing when you don’t use that. :D

Thanks, Jerry. That will be very helpful. This sander is an excellent tool. The improved know will remove the frustration. I might VCarve an arrow to remind me about the left hand thread.
I made a similar knob for my band saw.

I downloaded the file but I can't open it in Aspire. I don't have access to a 3D printer. I plan to CNC cut the knob.

I thought I had extracted the file but it turned out that I had not. Got it now. Thanks.

I made one out of 3/4" plywood with a blind hole. I've also attached the vectors in DXF format. This should work either in VCarve or Aspire.

That's not mine. It's a picture from Thingiverse. My guard is long gone... :D :D I was too lazy to go out to the garage @ 2 A.M. to take a pic.

Yes, and unlike my CNC’s, he can be left “unattended” for hours!
