Mantel from the Design and Carve Series
Mantel from the Design and Carve Series
I bought the Design and Carve series software mainly for the tutorials because everything I done so far as been trail-and-error. I didn't want to screw-up some expensive wood on my first try so I used some 2x10 Douglas fir that I bought at Home Depot. Total expense was about $75.00. One problem I found using that wood, was it was to green and had to do a lot of grinding the roughness using a stiff 4" nylon wheel attached to my cordless drill to smooth out the burrs. Using the cnc router to cut the corbel was much easier and actuate than the band saw. On each end of the corbel, I did a Canadian Goose and cattail scene.

Very impressive! It came out great and you should be very pleased.
How did you finish it?

I stained it using Minwax Early American Stain and Seal that just darken the wood, then I sprayed two coats of polyurethane to protect the finish. I didn't put a lot of effort, except for buffing out the burrs with the nylon brush on my drill.

Nice work Gary,
Did you make that for your self or a customer?
It turned out great I like to see it from an angle to see the corbels better!!!
Thanks for sharing,
Nick
