Re: A few recent projects
Hi Chris,
Those are some great looking plaques etc! I like the texture around Oliver, it really brings it to life! How thick was the Rose material? It appears to have a lot of depth.

Very nice work Chris.
Re: A few recent projects
Wes,
The rose started out as a 2 inch thick block. Finished thickness is about 1.75
I have to confess that the texture around the horse is largely as the file was purchased (3dmodelclub.com) with a bit of Aspire modification with the sculpt tools. The only tricky part was blending the edges of the component enough so that it did not look like a stamp plopped onto the wood.

Re: A few recent projects
Actually the teak cut more easily than I thought it would. Roughed it and cut it out with a .25 upcut spiral cutting .2 deep at about 100 ipm. Finish pass was with a .125 rounded (Actually a rotozip bit with the edges knocked off to make it "round". This is a cheap solution to "Where do I find long reach .125 bits). The finish pass was at 8% stepover at up to 200 ipm. There is no finish on it, and the shine is purely from natural oils. The only hand finishing was a quick scrub with a fine stainless wire brush, and going over it with a buffing wheel.

Where do I find long reach .125 bits
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... WLIST#LIST
This is where I got mine.
But, if you go to deep of a cut, you will get flex in the bit..
I believe they about 3" long..
He does have ball mills too!

I too find teak machines well, similair to walnut. Some of it does have a high silica content making it hard on tooling.CLyon wrote:Actually the teak cut more easily than I thought it would.
