Hex jewlery box

Post by SteveNelson46 »

Just a simple one day project. Every time I make one someone else wants one also. I think I've made 10 or 12 so far and I try to make each one a little different. This one has a different set of roses and I changed the font on the name. Both are on a textured background.

I like the Hex shape of the box and the smooth but simple lines of it. What bit(s) did you use to carve it?

The base/bottom and the underside of the lid were created with 2D toolpaths. On the inside pocket of the lid I used an Amana 1.125" bowl and tray bit and for the rim to fit inside the bottom I used a .5" DC end mill. The top of the lid was modeled in Aspire and I used a finish toolpath with a 1/16" tapered ballnose and a 1/4" EM for the cutout. The texture is just one of the standard textures that comes with Aspire.

Yes I am. The thickness of the material is 1 7/8" and the shank of the bowl and tray bit is just barely long enough. I use the same bit on the inside of the lid.
