Salmon Intarsia

Post by John Jockusch »

I made another “quick” intarsia for someone leaving our office. I drew out the vectors in illustrator, then used a 1/2” up cut bit for the rough pieces. The total size is 11” tall by 16” wide. I used a spindle sander and random orbital sander to finish the corners. It’s made from American walnut, spalted Alaskan birch, poplar, purple heart, and maple. It has 3 coats of satin poly for the finish. It was a fun project after work for a couple days.

This is the third "Quick" intarsia gift you've made that I liked....
I never commented on the others, but figured I Must now.
Your opinion and mine of "Quick" differ I must say! :) :)
Well done on all.

This piece has excellent grain choices and alignment! The stones, in particular, look that much more 3 dimensional. Well done!

WOW! I've been looking for a "fish" for a sign I want to make for a guy who runs a group up to Lake Michigan.

I've been looking at photos of fish but I think something similar to this would be much better, and much brighter for an eye catcher for his fishing business sign.

Now I'm all hyped up to GO, but I have several other jobs to do before this.
