Mountain and Trees
I made a “quick” intarsia for someone leaving our office. I drew out the vectors in illustrator, then used a 1/2” up cut bit for the rough pieces. The total size is 31” tall by 21” wide. I used a spindle sander and random orbital sander to finish the corners. It’s made from American walnut, spalted Alaskan birch, poplar, red cedar, Mexican bocote, and yew. It has 3 coats of satin poly for the finish. It was a fun project after work for a couple days.

Stunning work, I love seeing the mix of timbers to create artwork.

Re: Mountain and Trees
Thank you for sharing. If I may ask: What sort of tolerance did you give to the pieces if any? Did you simply outline each one and tell it to cut outside each piece or offset the original vector in by a thousandth or two?
Just curious. Beautiful work.

That is beautiful. I have never tried an intarsia project. Wouldn't know where to start. Any suggestions?

Re: Mountain and Trees
One could type “intarsia basics” into the address bar of your web browser and follow some of the search links returned. Funny, though, the first link I got was for intarsia knitting...
The second link was this one. Instead of printing the pattern and using a scroll-saw you’d create toolpaths.
Instead of “intarsia basics” you could type “intarsia cnc” but getting a handle on manual creation before jumping into cnc creation might be a better progression.
