Rustic letter opener
An easy one day project. Getting the right thickness on the blade was a bit challenging but still a lot of fun to make. This one is hard Maple.

Re: Rustic letter opener
If anyone decides to make one be sure to check all bit speeds and feed rates. I set them rather conservatively but may still exceed the limitations of some machines. Also, I didn't use any roughing toolpaths. It would have extend the cut times and I really don't think it needed any.

Very nice looking opener! Thank you for sharing, but can it be converted to VCarve Pro?SteveNelson46 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 8:04 pmHere is a link to the file if anyone would like to cut it themselves.

Re: Rustic letter opener
If I saved it as a VCarve file Aspire will strip all of the components and leave only the vectors. I suppose the components could be saved as a 2-sided .stl and then imported into VCarve but there would still be quite a bit of work positioning, creating tabs and toolpathing. I don't have VCarve Pro to experiment with so I guess the short answer is no.TomWS wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 5:53 pmVery nice looking opener! Re: Rustic letter opener
I cut another one out of Purple Heart. The blank was just scrap and had been setting around for a long time so it weathered to a dark brown. The edge grain was still purple though. Anyway, I think it came out better than the one in Maple.
