Ok, John, that does help explain what you did. I've designed some corners with half-round dowels before and faced a similar situation with fixturing, but it was much easier since it was a "round" piece. Your piece looks so much better, because it isn't so regular.

The problem I face with 3D is the "limitations" of Vcarve Desktop, so I have to decide how to fixture parts so I can both place the 3D stuff and cut it out, too. Its a problem where I'm enjoying the way to a solution, though.

Vcarve could be an issue unless you can accept some default models inyour clip art..

The rounded corners were made with 2 rail sweeps in Aspire.

You can trick Vcarve into doing more 3 modeling when you utilize the 3 d tabs as models. While my curved front styles were a custom shape in Aspire, I could make very similar ones in Vcarve that are close.

Wrapping animals on the curved front can be done in Vcarve too.

From an aesthetic point of view the scalloping of the animals could be a show stopper.
The lion, giraffe, elephant and zebra were from the African collection and no scalloped model was provided. The octopus was from previous Vectric supplied clip art and did have a scallop. Tried to duplicate the octopus scallop and did not look so good. So I scalloped all 5 the same way, very little time involved. Aspire only.

Another aesthetic issue was that African models are newer and have more features, fine details, muscles, fur, etc. The octopus is from a time when all the models were smooth. So I found jpg of octopus skin, converted it into a model and draped it over the octopus, instant texture. Aspire only.

Thank you for that response, John. I'm sort of planning a moulding toolpath for the corners, adding "a" pocket, but building the "critters" like you did ... external. I've had good luck with cutting 3D separate and gluing onto the pocket bottom, but not in such a small scale. (I've done an eagle flag out of one piece and one where I glued the eagle into a shallow pocket.)

You do realize the animals are on the curve too?

I don’t use mounding toolpath path often, but I don’t think you can wrap the animals to a mounding toolpath shape.

Yes, but my plan was to fixture the part so that I could pocket a flat bottom through the curve for them to mount into. I should be able to create a rough outline of the animals for the pocket sides and cut the animals with a flat bottom.

I don't think the difference will be visible, but obviously its still only a plan.

Wow. The fixturing on your whole project is so over the top. I confess that I missed the scale of this box from your original photos.

I've got a lot of thinking and planning to do.
