Latest carve in Maple

Post by TWarris »

The latest carve off the machine. This was a large one, 16" in diameter, carved from 1.5" hard maple. Love carving maple, nice sharp details and minimal cleanup. Rough carved with a 1/4" BN, took about 2 hours. Finish pass was with a 1/16"TBN RIP bit, about 11 hours at 8% step over, 150IPM. Customer hasn't decided on the finish yet.

VERY clean cut,and a good choice of finish bit as it brought out the Hummingbirds beautifully!! :)

Beautiful.

How did you create the model?

I can imagine how that would look if all the details were painted or color stained.

The hummingbirds came from 3dWave, I assembled the rest using Vectric clipart.

Sometimes things like that "look" crowded, but yours does not.

It is well arranged, clean, artistic.

I like it a lot.

Wow! That is beautiful!
.
Most impressed with your management of the maple. Your glue-up is spot on. Had to magnify pics to max and put glasses on to inspect :D.
I maybe count 4 pieces....
