Happy Thanksgiving!
I have made more than a few of these style frames for diplomas, each one personalized with name and class and an extra carving or two. This one for my daighter.
This one is Walnut. The frame is just pocket screwed together from the back that sits against a wall. The top and bottom boards are carved, the frame is assembled, then a pocket added for the glass and diploma. Then flip over and add the peg pockets. I cut the pegs from end grain walnut. All the edge chamfers are by hand.
The 3D at the top I created and imported and carved with a 1 mm dia TBN.
Thanks for looking!

That's a very nice frame. In notice that your hanger slot is horizontal. Any special reason, like limited thickness?

Re: Arts and Crafts diploma frame
The location was to get under the carve at the top, but when I do a symmetrical piece like this and use one hanger slot, I always put it in horizontally, that works best to find the balance point. If I put 2 slots in for weight, I put them in vertically.

Re: Arts and Crafts diploma frame
Thanks everyone.
I should mention the finish process. Really like the way this came out on the walnut.
I used a rubbed on coat of polymerized Linseed Oil first. Let that fully dry overnight. Then, I use Clear Shellac, cut with 60% alcohol, 40 shellac so its very thin. Two coats, sand with 600, two more coats, sand again. This shellac dries very quickly, less than an hour. Then I use a cloth, wadded into a ball, and just dab some shellac on the cloth with the brush, and a drop of mineral oil. Rub this on, let dry, wipe with 0000 steel wool, repeat about 3 times. The last wipe is with pure alcohol. This rubs out any imperfections in the shellac and gives any extremely smooth surface. Once more with the 0000 steel wool, then a coat of hard wax, buffed out. Super smooth finish with a deep, but not too glossy shine.
