I didn't think about the UK travel restrictions, it's probably as goofy as California. I took the liberty of cancelling a professional (work related) conference in California. I saw where California banned travel to certain states including mine, so I thought I'd return the favor.mtylerfl wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 8:09 pmHi Mike,MikeSibley wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 7:54 pm...This is what happens when you hold something in such a nutty place as California.
I believe the cancellation of the in-person UG is due to the current and future wildly unpredictable UK travel restrictions (or any other province, state or country’s either).
The upside of the online UG is we get 3 days of training (Sept. 9, 10, 11) instead of 2, the cost to attend is zero, it’s accessible to anyone with internet service anywhere in the world, the UG training can be viewed live or at a later time as convenient, no hotel costs, no travel costs, no parking or food costs, etc.
Plus, we don’t have to wear any “maskee pads”

PS - Thank you for the update on the on-line forum. I'm going to have to duck for a while after spending all the money on the airfare!mtylerfl wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 8:09 pmHi Mike,MikeSibley wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 7:54 pm...This is what happens when you hold something in such a nutty place as California.

I certainly will try, although I took out the travelers insurance when I booked these tickets it only says that it pays out for illnesses, death, hurricanes etc.mtylerfl wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 8:40 pmDouble-check with your airline for refund policy. My wife and I have cancelled two cruises and three airline trip reservations and were able to get full refunds or credit (in one case) from all.Sliverfoot wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 8:34 pmI can't wait ti tell my wife that we threw away $600 in aitfare.
Hopefully, you can too!
We were really looking forward to this conference. But to be honest I'll think hard about if we attempt this next year.

My wife and I are saddened at the news of the cancellation. We look forward to the 2022 meeting. I already moved it on my calendar. .... at least my badges are already completed.

Apparently, the US also has travel restrictions in place for "regular" people wanting to travel from the UK to the US, due to the "Delta variant". Basically, only emergency travel is permitted from UK to US and that is after jumping through hoops and applying for a travel waiver directly from the US Embassy London, then your application is sent to the CDC in the US, and then they MAY give approval if your trip qualifies as a true emergency. Crazy world situation(s)...hope it's over with sooner than later.

I considered signing up for my first in-person users group but felt it was still too early to hold it because of the ongoing Covid issue.
Call me what you want but I've always been a glass half empty person. Expect the worst and you're never disappointed.
Some day maybe I'll get to meet you guy's and gal's in person.

I canceled the hotel reservation following the instructions in the Vectric email and the hotel did not refund the complete amount. Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: 2021 User Group Meeting - San Diego
I called the hotel and nobody knew what I was even talking about. Said to call back later in the week. Somebody might know something then. Wouldn't change reservations to the new dates at the same rate, either.
Went to cancel our flights on Delta and found out they were only giving E-credits, and for the basic ticket only. After 90 minutes on hold I found out the seat upgrades we purchased because of the long flight don't count towards the credit. Out right at $400. Who knows if it'll even be held next year. Really wondering if it's worth it or just sit out another year. I've got a lot of time wrapped up in this and lost what I consider a lot of money as well. And paid another $400 for the Aspire upgrade. This CNC stuff is an expensive hobby.

Perhaps next time, they can schedule this conference in Texas rather than California. Jus' sayin' ...

That wouldn’t work either...not until the USA lifts the current travel restrictions for folks who want to travel from the UK to the USTex_Lawrence wrote: ↑Mon Jul 05, 2021 8:32 pmPerhaps next time, they can schedule this conference in Texas rather than California. Jus' sayin' ...
Very, very unpredictable circumstances. Nobody knows when (or if) the current travel restrictions will be changed.
