Bowled over

Post by rtibbs »

This is my third bowl and made it from Canary Wood. 5 1/2 inches in dia. x three inches tall finished with clear Danish Oil.
After I finished i realized this would have been a good candidate for resin inlay.....maybe next time.
At least this one didn't have a hole through it

Also when Randy did his demo he glued plywood tabs to the block and used them as hold downs. The turning blocks i use have a wax coating on them to prevent cracking etc. Tried sanding the areas where I would glue the "Tabs" however, they wouldn't adhere very well.
I cut slots in both sides of the blocks and used toe clamps to hold the block in place.

LIKING it Ron! :)
Boy, you must have Safe-Zs/Home Position Z/ and Shopbot VC setting at Low numbers!
Glad you didn't get another "Holy" bowl. :)
Pretty piece!

Scott
Balancing my max Z, bowl height, long cutter length, collet nut diameter, spindle mount plate protrusion, safe Z of .125 I call it my “Pucker factor” when I press Start Cut.

Measure twice, cut once really comes into play....

Yep Ron,
Had a few cuts where the collet nut went below the surface...always nerve making!
Quite a few branches you have to play with Home Position and vector starting points
to make sure the cutter gets there Before the Z carriage plate or dust foot plexi.
Does make you tense up before pressing Start, with finger ready far a fast Stop!
Nice job!

Ron....
Very nice job with the bowl turned out very well.
Have been working on this with the molding toolpath and
am close to making a run at it. Have to do a little more
tweaking on the design for the bowl width, yours looks
very pleasing to the eye.
