For this project, I used 1/4" MDF as a backing and created a form with 1/4" MDF. The fill was a two tone white on white resin. once dry, I used pockets and profiles to create the flowers and leaves on a vine. Each color of resin needed its own toolpath and 24 hours to cure.
once complete, I used a spoil pass to reduce the image back to the 1/4" form, flipped the project over and used another spoil pass to remove the 1/4" MDF backing. Of the 1/4" form used to form the background resin, I preserved about a 1/4" on all sides to allow it to site inside the rabbit cut on the frame.
After machining and sanding (to 2000 grit) , the thickness is about 3/16". the resin was finished with automotive (turtle wax) finish that had a fine cut in it. The final product is too thin to sit horizontally, over a period of a few days it tends to sag. for hanging, I had to allow it to sit on a solid back to remove any warp. hanging vertically, there was no movement, even with the image in front of a window where it picks up daytime heat.
